Three uses of the phrase "son(s) of God" found throughout Scripture. A lesson on letting the context and overall harmony of the Bible define words and phrases, the main point being that we are sons of God by creation, the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God by essence, existing eternally before his incarnation, and we are made sons of God spiritually by the new birth and the adoption of the Spirit of God.

Psalm 23:5, "...my cup runneth over." The Hebrew word for cup denotes being held together as a vessel or cup is held together by clay, dirt, and water. The Lord Jesus Christ is what holds everything together! Also, this cup, an earthen vessel, is a picture of our body that is spiritually dead without the quickening power of the Holy Ghost. When we live Spirit-filled (controlled) lives, we will be able to rejoice with David that our cup runneth over!

"The Seed that Crushed the Serpent" - Genesis 3:1-15, Colossians 2:9, 15. The Serpent, an embodiment of Satan, the Liar, is on the prowl, seeking whom he may devour, but his head has been bruised! His head was crushed on the cross of Calvary when the Lord Jesus's heel was bruised, i.e. crucified. Satan attacks us the way he attacked Eve, who was the weaker vessel, with the lie, causing us to question, and then change the Word of God. Satan is our enemy, but he is a defeated foe!
